Novato Man ID'd in Deadly San Rafael Crash

The CHP said the collision was so violent that two vehicles overturned on the highway before coming to a stop on their wheels.

The Marin County Sheriff’s Office has identified a man who died in a crash on U.S. Highway 101 in San Rafael early Saturday morning as 60-year-old Rodolfo Roman Alcibir Luna.

Luna, a Novato resident, was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris that was rear-ended by a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero on northbound Highway 101 near San Pedro Road around 1:20 a.m. Saturday.

Osmon DeLeon, 30, of Petaluma, the Mitsubishi driver, was arrested at Marin General Hospital on suspicion of DUI causing death and felony gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He was booked into Marin County Jail under $500,000 bail Sunday morning.

The California Highway Patrol received a call about a possibly intoxicated driver on the highway around 1:20 a.m.

The caller witnessed the Mitsubishi go off of the road and across the shoulder to an embankment. The Mitsubishi then swerved back onto the highway and rear-ended the Toyota in front of it, according to the CHP.

Both vehicles overturned and landed on their wheels.

Both drivers and a passenger in the Toyota went to Marin General Hospital, where Luna died, CHP officials said.

The passenger in the Toyota was treated for a complaint of pain and bruises.
