A Mill Valley woman and a San Francisco man were injured Tuesday when they collided Tuesday evening on the Sausalito-Mill Valley bike path in unincorporated Marin County near Mill Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The 80-year-old woman was walking south on the path when she and the 56-year-old bicyclist collided, CHP officials said.

The collision happened around 6:40 p.m. The bicyclist told the CHP he called out to the pedestrian, who was on his right, to let her know he was approaching, CHP Officer Patrick Roth said.

“When he got close to her, she was startled and she stepped to her left,” Roth said.

The woman suffered a broken hip and was taken to Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, Roth said. Her condition was not immediately available this afternoon.

The bicyclist fell off of his bike and suffered scrapes and bruises on the left side of his body, Roth said.

Roth said the pedestrian might not have heard the bicyclist tell her he was approaching.
