Teen Boy Allegedly Crashed Stolen Car While Drunk

Police arrested a teenager on suspicion of driving under the influence after he allegedly crashed a stolen car Saturday afternoon near San Rafael and tried to flee the scene, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded at 3:15 p.m. to a report of an injury collision in the area of Miller Creek Road and Roundtree Boulevard in unincorporated Marin County, CHP officers said.

CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said the driver drove off the road, over a curb and into some bushes. After the crash, witnesses told police he had gotten out of the car and was walking away from the scene, Barclay said.

Barclay said no one else was in the car and no other property was damaged. Based on detailed descriptions of the driver, Marin County sheriff’s deputies were able to locate the teen near the intersection of Las Gallinas Avenue and Roundtree Boulevard.

CHP officers identified the driver as a 16-year-old San Rafael boy. While speaking with him, CHP officers said he exhibited obvious sings of intoxication.

The teen reportedly failed field sobriety tests, CHP officers said. During their investigation, the registered owner of the car turned up on scene and said they didn’t know the teenager or allow him to take the car.

CHP officers arrested the youth on suspicion of DUI, felony vehicle theft, felony possession of stolen property and driving while unlicensed.
