Tri-Valley Juneteenth Celebration Comes To Bankhead Theater
The day-long celebration will feature music, dance, food, talks, and even a dance battle.
LIVERMORE, CA - Livermore Valley Arts and Tri-Valley for Black Lives are collaborating on the Tri-Valley Juneteenth Festival, which will bring song, dance, art, drumming, storytelling and much more to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans.
The holiday was first observed in 1866 to commemorate the liberation of the country’s last slaves in Texas on June 19, 1865. It was first recognized as a federal holiday in 2021, following mass protests surrounding the death of George Floyd.
Livermore will celebrate its second Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 17 from 10-4 at the Bankhead Theater. It will feature a number of performers, speakers, vendors, food and information booths, with a particular focus on Black-owned businesses, artists and organizations. See here for a complete list.
