Details Emerge About Sexual Assault of Woman Near Arroyo Trail
Officials say the woman was attacked from behind by a lone male.

Livermore Police officials say a 29-year-old Livermore woman attacked in the area of the Arroyo Trail near Arroyo Rd. at about 6 p.m. Tuesday was walking alone when she was attacked and sexually assaulted.
According to police, the male suspect approached the woman from behind, sexually assaulted her and fled the area.
“The suspect is described as possibly being a white male adult, early to mid 30s in age, with dark features (dark eyebrows, and unshaven) 5-foot-10-inches to 6-feet tall weighing 180 to 190 pounds (stocky build), wearing a dark hooded long sleeve sweatshirt and dark colored baggy sweat pants,” Lieutenant John Hurd said. “The suspect was described as being dirty and scruffy in appearance.”

“The Livermore Police Department has responded to at least three sexual assault calls that have occurred on the Arroyo Trail in south Livermore in the past three years,” Hurd said.

Police released the following information about the previous assaults:
In May 2012, a female was approached by a Hispanic male described as 5’ 6” 140 pounds who grabbed the victim and pulled her close to him. The suspect then grabbed an intimate part of the victim’s body before fleeing the scene.
In May 2013, a female was approached from behind by a Hispanic male 20-22 years of age described as 5’-7” to 5’-9” tall weighing about 160 to 180 pounds with long black hair slicked back into a ponytail. The suspect grabbed an intimate part of the victim’s body before fleeing the scene.
In August 2014, a female was walking on Murrieta Blvd near El Rancho Dr. when she was approached from behind by a suspect described as a Hispanic male 20-30 years of age about 6’ tall with a medium build. The suspect grabbed the victim from behind and sexually battered the victim before fleeing.
“It is unknown if these cases are related to the current sexual assault being investigated,” Hurd said. “The Livermore Police Department routinely patrols the Arroyo trails and will be providing additional extra patrols.”
According to Hurd, officers have focused extra patrol efforts in that area in light of the previous attacks.
“Officers have invested considerable time working in the area of the trails contacting suspicious people, arranging for the cleanup of overgrown vegetation, painting over graffiti, and working with residents whose homes back up to the trails to ensure quality of life issues,” Hurd commented. “The safety of people using the bike paths and trails in our community are very important to the Livermore Police Department.”
The Livermore Police Department offered the following safety tips for community members who are walking in Livermore.
- Be alert and aware of what is occurring around you.
- Don’t wear headphones covering both ears making it so you cannot hear what is occurring around you.
- Be aware of your surroundings and avoid unlit locations and areas secluded from public view.
- Walk with another person whenever possible.
- Carry a cellular telephone.
- Program the direct phone number to LPD Dispatch into your phone, 925-371-4987.
- Report suspicious persons and behavior to the police.
Police officials are not releasing further details as the investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the attack or has information is asked to call the Livermore Police Department at 925-371-4777.
