Driver Likely Suffers Pedal Confusion, Hits Livermore House: LPFD
Fire officials said the dramatic crash is a good reminder to all drivers to wear a seat belt.
LIVERMORE, CA — A car slammed into a house in Livermore Sunday evening, fire officials said. The 74-year-old female driver likely suffered pedal confusion, hitting the accelerator instead of the brake, and lost control of her car, according to a fire department spokesperson. The crash was reported on Sonoma Avenue at about 6 p.m.
Fire crews discovered that the sedan drove across the grass and came to rest after hitting and knocking down part of the garage wall of the home. Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department Battalion Chief Jack Neiman-Kimel said the driver, who was wearing her seat belt, was the only occupant in the car. She suffered minor scrapes during the wreck.
"The Livermore City Building Department was called to the scene to check the residence for structural stability," Neiman-Kimel said. "The residence remained livable but will need to have the wall to the garage repaired."
