Former Livermore Mayor Dale Turner Dies, Livermore Flags At Half-Staff

Turner served on the City Council and was the city's first directly-elected mayor.

LIVERMORE, CA — City of Livermore flags are flying at half-staff until Friday to honor former mayor Dale Turner, who passed away Jan. 15 at age 85.

Turner was elected to Livermore City Council in 1974. He served as mayor from 1978-79, then again from 1980 to 1982. In 1982, he became the city’s first direct-elected mayor, and then served two consecutive terms from 1982 to 1989.

Turner also served on the board of the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District for just over six years before resigning in 2007. He also worked as a real estate broker, soccer coach, and more.

“So much love and passion for Livermore and a great sense of humor,” one Facebook user remembered of him.

"I was very sorry to hear of the passing of former Mayor Dale Turner," Livermore Mayor John Marchand said. "He was a long-time community servant, and while I did not have the opportunity to serve with him on the Council, I appreciate that he took the time to serve our community."
