School district officials say in the wake of the incident, Sambuceti sent out the following safety alert message the day of the incident to MMS families as a precaution:
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We received a report of a stranger approaching a student about an hour ago. The police have been contacted and the car identified, but we made an announcement asking students to be more vigilant today than usual on their way home from school, due to this report. It is never a bad idea to address with your child how to handle being approached by strangers. Let's hope they never have to use those skills.
Regards,
Susan Sambuceti
Principal
