Livermore 'Bike Angel' to Deliver 300 More Bikes to Lake County Fire Victims

The woman who was on a mission to bring happiness to children affected by the fire says their group has collected and donated 800 bikes.

The donations have come from all over the Bay Area. Hundreds of bikes and helmets collected over the past few weeks will be donated to children and adults affected by the devastating Lake County fire.

Longtime Livermore resident Candy Alcott spearheaded the movement back in September and the “Bike Angels” were born. Since then the “Bike Angels” have tirelessly collected donations of new or gently used bicycles and new helmets so the group could keep a promise made to a little boy in an evacuation center following one of the most deadly wildfires in the state.

“Tomorrow 250 of the children and adults on my list are considered fire affected, then all other children and adults present will be given bikes,” Alcott told Patch. “Five 11-year-old ‘Junior Bike Angels’ collected 103 bikes while the Livermore Area Recreation and Parks Department donated eight new bikes.”

Alcott says donors include the Napa County Bike Coalition, Napa’s Eagle Cycling, Napa Peace Officer’s Association, Tam Bikes in Marin, Sonoma Bike Coalition, Redlands Woman’s Bike Club, Pengroves Bash Tea and Coffee, and Sandra Ballard of Chico.

Congressman Mike Thompson will be present in Lake County on Saturday to speak and help hand out the bicycles.

“Future donations of cash for bike clinics every three months to maintain bikes will be offered,” Alcott said.
