Livermore Enforcing Face Covering Order; Latest Case Count

LIVERMORE, CA — The city of Livermore is now enforcing a face coverings order to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.

Anyone who fails to comply could be fined $100. City staff will be keeping an eye on downtown, reminding people that face coverings are required at all times, except when eating or drinking at an outdoor table, the city said.

Disposable face coverings will be handed out to those in need.

Livermore remains the epicenter of Tri-Valley's COVID-19 outbreak with 550 cases, compared to 245 in Pleasanton and 143 in Dublin.

"We will continue to remain flexible, monitor the situation, and make adjustments as needed," the city said.

The city also announced that downtown Livermore street closures will not be enforced this weekend as businesses report a lack of interest in the initiative to serve customers outdoors while maintaining social distancing.

Just one in four downtown businesses said the street closures helped their business, the city said. Closures were rarely used to promote social distancing.

In Pleasanton, however, downtown street closures were extended through Labor Day weekend. Closures are in effect from 2 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Sunday. Anyone who visits downtown Pleasanton is asked to maintain six feet of distance from others and wear a face covering.

"Throughout this crisis our community has showed their love and support for our downtown businesses in a big way and now more than ever they need our continued support as we navigate recovery," the Pleasanton Downtown Association said in its newsletter.
