Livermore Fifth Grader Donates Tresses To Sick Children

The Jackson Elementary student has had only two haircuts in her 10 years of life -- both times to help others.

LIVERMORE, CA — Kaylee Olsen will be going back to Jackson Elementary this month sporting a snazzy new haircut. Somewhere in the United States, another child will have hair thanks to that drastic haircut. Kaylee, who goes by the name Lilo, has only had two haircuts throughout her life.

She had her first haircut when she was 8-years-old. At that time, Lilo donated 12 inches of hair to Locks of Love. This time, the fifth grader again chose to lop off more than 11 inches of her beautiful hair to donate to Children With Hair Loss.

Nikki Olsen, Lilo’s mom, said she had Lilo’s hair cut at the Fantastic Sams in Tracy.

“Again, all on her own, all she wanted to do was make another little girl smile,” Olsen told Patch.

Livermore Valley Joint Unified Schools Superintendent Kelly Bowers says she was very touched to hear Lilo's story.

"Here in Livermore we encourage our students to contribute and thrive, both in the classroom and in our community," Bowers said. "Lilo's generous act is an inspiration to us all. We are very proud of her."

Lilo says she donates her hair because she wants "all little girls who are sick to feel like princesses because everyone is special."

“I am very proud of my daughter. I love the fact she cares so much,” Nikki Olson said.
