Livermore Graffiti Ordinance Goes Into Effect Jan. 1
The new ordinance requires business owners to clean up graffiti within 7 days of a notice, or have the city do it for them.
LIVERMORE, CA - Starting Jan. 1, Livermore businesses and homeowners will be required to remove graffiti from their property within seven days, per a new ordinance.
A November ordinance declares graffiti vandalism as a “prevalent issue within the City of Livermore (“City”), leading to blight, decreased property values, and a negative impact on the overall quality of life in the community.”
The ordinance declares the city’s intent to enforce all laws pertaining to graffiti, which remains illegal under California law. It also allows city officials to issue a notice to business owners with graffiti on their property. Business and homeowners have 48 hours to contest the notice. If they do not or the contestation is not approved, then they have seven days to remove the graffiti. If they do not, the city will remove it, and the business or homeowner will bear the cost.
