Livermore Police Explorers Bring Home Awards, Scholarship From Annual Competition

The competition draws volunteer police explorers from all over California.

Livermore, CA— Five police explorers representing the Livermore Police Department at the annual Central Valley Explorer Competition in Tracy brought home awards and a scholarship last month.

Police explorers from 33 California police agencies gathered for the popular three-day competition. The youth represent their department and compete in scenarios simulating police calls for service including, investigating a report of a suspicious person, searching a car and handling a bus assault. The explorers also participate in drills, marching and running an obstacle course.

"The advisors and I are extremely proud of our Explorers," Post Coordinator Sergeant John Reynolds said. "Their dedication to training for this competition was admirable. They represented the Explorer Post and Livermore Police Department as true professionals."

Reynolds said the teams are also evaluated on their physical fitness skills, leadership, and the ability to work as a team.

One of the explorers took first place in the physical fitness challenge and won a $500 dollar college scholarship, while the Livermore Police Explorer Post team garnered numerous top awards in a variety of challenging scenarios.

The team won the following awards:

  • 1st Place - Suspicious Person scenario
  • 1st Place - Bus Assault scenario
  • 2nd Place - Vehicle Search scenario
  • 2nd Place - Domestic Violence scenario
  • 3rd Place - Drill & Marching

The Livermore Explorer Post is comprised of 15 volunteers ranging in age from 14 to 20 years old. The Post has been in existence for eight years and is affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America.
