Livermore Civic Center Meeting Hall Groundbreaking Ceremony
The council chambers in the new meeting hall will be named in honor of former Mayor John Shirley.

LIVERMORE, CA — A groundbreaking ceremony was held in Livermore this morning to celebrate construction of the new civic center meeting hall. Community members, local dignitaries and city employees attended the event, which was held near the corner of South Livermore and Pacific avenues. Mayor John Marchand, City Manager Marc Roberts, and former Mayor John Shirley all spoke during the brief ceremony.
Marchand said Shirley is an iconic member of the community.
"I am very proud that we were able to name the Chambers after him," Marchand told Patch.

City officials said the 6,700-square-foot civic center meeting hall, which will likely be completed by 2019, will serve as a conference facility, city council chambers and as an expanded city emergency operations center. The council chambers will be named in honor of Shirley.
