Letter to Editor: Livermore Student Says 'No More Gun Control, Please'
Mendenhall Middle School student shares opinion on gun control.

Dear Editor,
There has been a lot of talk recently in our country about laws of gun control. The main reason is that the shootings that have taken place very recently all over the country. They have started to become common.
Many believe that gun control will save the problem. Gun control will take away the right of bearing arms. In the second amendment of the Constitution, it clearly states that citizens of the United States of America have the right to own a firearm for their defense.

Many people have heard of the very recent Paris massacre. This happened on the 15th of November, 2015. In this horrible scene, over 128 people died. In France, owning a gun is against the law. When the terrorists came into Paris and began shooting everyone, the people were sitting ducks with no chance to fight back. Also, because of the law, even many of the policemen were not armed and able to fight back. If there was no law of gun control, people who owned guns would be able to stop the terrorists faster before they killed more people.
“A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” This is what our second amendment states. Our forefathers put this only second to the first amendment, freedom of religion. This must mean that it is a very important part of our country to sustain our freedom.

I, as a U.S. citizen, would like to have the right of owning a firearm to protect myself when I am older even if I don’t carry it around everywhere I go. I would feel a lot safer in my home if I was able to have a gun to protect myself or those with me. I feel that if strict gun laws are passed in our country like in France, our country would slowly become less free in many ways. If the government passes more gun laws this will not be a very safe place to live.
