Pungent Pond Likely Cause of Strong Odor in Springtown

Have you noticed a musty smell near Bluebell Street? Patch sniffed out the answer to the malodorous mystery in Livermore.

If you have recently noticed an odd smell in Springtown, you are not alone. Livermore resident Sue Bulhoes recently wrote to Patch and asked about the smell of mold on Bluebell Street that she says that has been lingering for weeks.

“It can be smelled past the Chevron gas station thru past the duck pond,” Bulhoes said.

Police officials said they had heard of the pungent problem but did not know what was causing the offending odor. Fire officials said they had not heard about the complaints near the allegedly odoriferous area of town.

City officials report that odors do periodically waft from the duck pond on Bluebell St. when an imbalance of the water and the duck waste occurs. The persistent triple-digit temperatures from this week’s scorching heat wave is probably not helping the problem.
