Taxpayer Groups File Lawsuit To Stop Livermore Parcel Tax
Two taxpayer groups have filed a lawsuit to stop a May 3 special election for a parcel tax of property owners in Livermore.

LIVERMORE, CA — Two taxpayer groups have filed a lawsuit to stop a May 3 special election for a parcel tax of property owners in Livermore.
The Alameda County Taxpayers' Association and Livermore Valley Taxpayers' Association announced the suit Friday against Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District and county elections officials over the Measure A election.
In a news release, a spokesman for the groups called the election unnecessary as it comes just one month before the statewide election in June.

"The Livermore school district is needlessly wasting funds to conduct this special election," said Alan Heckman, named as the petitioner in the the suit on behalf of both associations. "Our lawsuit calls for a court order to stop it."
Heckman said the ballot question is deceptive by promising independent citizen oversight without establishing a requirement to include membership on the committee of citizens who are not district administrators.
