LIVERMORE, CA — Patch reader Glenn Stewart shared his photograph of a time-worn barn on Las Colinas Road in Livermore — a throwback reminder to the region's farming history, but a rare sight as few such barns remain.

"Today, vintage barns are becoming increasingly rare, but valuable, as reclaimed barnwood is in demand," Stewart said. "Barns were an important part of farming in early Livermore for many years. They provided shelter for animals and storage for crops. In addition, they often served as a place where people could gather and socialize."

"With the advent of modern farm equipment, barns have gradually become less important," he added. "Many have been abandoned or destroyed in favor of larger and more efficient structures."
