Covert Chinese Agent, Arcadia's Ex-Mayor, Pleads Guilty In Federal Case: DOJ (patch.com) — A former Arcadia mayor has admitted in Los Angeles federal court to secretly acting as an agent for the Chinese government while helping run a propaganda-leaning news site aimed at Chinese Americans. Prosecutors say she amplified messaging from Chinese officials, including content tied to the Chinese consulate in Los Angeles and a letter published in the Los Angeles Times, and now faces up to 10 years in prison at her October sentencing.
2. Hunt Continues For Amber Alert Father Facing Murder Charge In LA Mother’s Killing: DA (patch.com) — Los Angeles authorities are urgently searching for a father accused of killing his girlfriend in West Adams and fleeing toward Mexico with their 5-year-old daughter, sparking a regional Amber Alert. Investigators traced their SUV to the San Ysidro border area and, with the DA’s office and federal partners, are pursuing murder and child abuse charges while the pair remain missing.
3. Man arrested in connection with multiple shootings along 405 Freeway (nbclosangeles.com) — Multiple car-to-car shootings along the 405 Freeway in South Los Angeles over the past week led to the arrest of a suspect early Friday, according to CHP. No injuries were reported, but investigators are linking at least three incidents and asking additional witnesses or possible victims to contact the South Los Angeles CHP office.
4. Council Committee Holds Off On Ballot Proposal to Reform Measure ULA (mynewsla.com) — Los Angeles leaders just hit pause on putting major Measure ULA changes on the ballot, instead pushing a pilot aid program and targeted tax tweaks aimed at boosting affordable housing. The committee’s recommendations now head to the full City Council, while a competing proposal that could significantly cut the “mansion tax” still awaits action in another council committee.
5. Dodgers place Teoscar Hernandez on IL, option Hyeseong Kim (taylorvilledailynews.com) — Los Angeles Dodgers fans will see a reshuffled roster this weekend, as hot-hitting outfielder Teoscar Hernandez hits the 10-day injured list and utility man Hyeseong Kim is optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City. The Dodgers filled the gaps by recalling Ryan Ward and re-signing Santiago Espinal, while moving injured pitcher Blake Snell to the 60-day IL to open a roster spot.
