SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — As we head into the new week, we've rounded up the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.
First, it may be October, but the weather still thinks it's summer. LA can expect temperatures in the mid-80s throughout the week, and temperatures are expected to rise to the mid-90s Friday through the weekend. San Diego is expecting highs in the low 80s earlier in the week, and highs in the upper 80s and low 90s later in the week. Riverside can expect highs in the 90s all week, and temperatures could reach as high as 104 degrees over the weekend.
But if you want to escape the heat, you may not want to head to the beach: forecasters say that Hurricane Polo, which is brewing off the coast of central Mexico, could cause elevated tides, coastal flooding, dangerous rip currents, and significant beach erosion over the next few days.
In other news, the San Diego County Sheriff says that a 69-year-old man convicted of rape and child sexual abuse on Conditional Release removed his GPS and has been missing since Friday morning. Police say anyone who sees Mark Wakefield, 69, is to contact local law enforcement immediately and avoid approaching him.
A boy and girl were both shot in Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Police say they found a male and female juvenile with gunshot wounds, and details remain unclear as of Sunday night.
