LOS ANGELES, CA — As the weekend wraps up, we've rounded up all the stories you may have missed Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

But before we jump into Southern California’s top stories, Golden State residents should grab a cool towel and a telescope.

The second heat wave this month is bringing sweltering temperatures to much of Southern California. Inland areas are expected to reach highs of 107 Monday and Tuesday, and an excessive heat warning has been issued until Wednesday afternoon.

Temps will be a little bit cooler at night, so on Monday night, make sure to look up to the heavens to see Jupiter, which will be at its closest point to Earth since 1963. See below for a full manual on how to recognize our Solar System’s largest planet.

Back on Earth, Gov. Newsom signed a raft of progressive legislation. In addition to renaming UC Berkeley’s law school, Newsom signed AB 1766, which will allow all undocumented California residents to obtain a State ID, which will allow them to gain employment, health care, housing, tuition, and secure a bank account. It was one of several bills signed Friday that allow improved access to in-state tuition, ESL courses at community colleges, and further options to finance college educations.
