Japanese 'Age-Old' BBQ Restaurant Coming To Los Angeles

Share a piece of Japanese history - one course at a time - when Niku X opens in the fall at Wilshire Grand Center.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Niku X, a new restaurant, starring Japanese cuisine with an age-old "Yakiniku" style of cooking, is poised to open in September at the Wilshire Grand Center in downtown Los Angeles, restaurateurs said.

Adjacent to the Intercontinental Los Angeles, Niku X, Japanese-influenced with French inspiration, will bring to the table wagyu, artisanal produce and farm-to-table ingredients from Michelin-starred Chef Shin Thompson and team.

Aiming for a "Sukiya-style" atmosphere with rustic simplicity, Niku X plans to "share a piece of Japanese history — one course at a time," operators said.

"It isn’t enough to simply serve a course, but to also explain how it translates to Japanese culture and why it’s important," Thompson said.

Among upgraded dining experiences planned at Niku X: Wagyu will be presented in its own glass box, with a certificate of authentication, the restaurant said.
