Palisades Fire Swells, March For Palestine | SoCal In Brief

Took a break from the news this weekend? Not to worry, we've rounded up some of the stories you missed in SoCal on Saturday and Sunday

LOS ANGELES, CA — As the weekend wraps up, we've rounded up all the stories you may have missed on Saturday and Sunday to prepare you for Monday.

But before we jump into the Southland's top stories, Golden State residents should know that Gov. Gavin Newsom just unveiled scores of new spending proposals, many of which could help Californians who were severely impacted by the pandemic.

The proposed spending includes an ambitious $100 billion pandemic relief package made possible by a striking $267.8 billion budget.

If these plans are approved by the Legislature, millions of lower-income Californians could have their back-rent and utilities paid — and even have their parking tickets wiped out.

What's more, a report published this weekend by the Legislative Analyst's Office warns California lawmakers to prepare to dispatch emergency drinking water to the state's most vulnerable communities.

Rural, low-income Latino communities across the state were hardest hit by the last drought and could see drinking water shortages again this year as extreme drought worsens across the Golden State, the report detailed.

Also, the Southland — especially Angelenos — had a busy weekend between the Palisades Fire, which cast smoke over the county, a "Free Palestine" demonstration that led thousands on a march through Los Angeles and an arrest made after another French bulldog puppy was snatched from its owner in Culver City.
