LA County Education Office Lockdown Lifted In Downey

A police search for a suspect who attacked a sheriff's deputy prompted a lockdown at the Los Angeles County Office of Education.

DOWNEY, CA — A suspect who struck and injured a deputy during a traffic stop in Lakewood and then fled on foot to a Downey residential neighborhood after a brief car chase was arrested during a perimeter search Thursday.

The deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital to be examined after being struck about 2 p.m., according to the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

The deputy was injured shortly after pulling over a silver Infiniti with three men inside, according to reports from the scene. One of the suspects -- believed to be the driver -- bailed out of the vehicle in the area of Columbia Way and Imperial Highway but the other two remained at the scene and were detained, the sheriff's department reported.
