An Interview with Isaac Middleton (DJ Fire Hawk)

I’m Isaac Middleton—some of you may know me as DJ Fire Hawk—and I recently had the privilege of sitting down with Vero G. She’s one of those rare people who somehow manages to be both intensely talented and genuinely warm. Born and raised on the Lower East Side of New York City, Vero G’s story starts early: by seven, her life was already set to a soundtrack. Her first taste of the spotlight came with the JHS 22 School Choir, when she took first place at an Anti-Drug Awareness Show. That win was just the spark for what’s become a 15-year (and counting) music career.

Vero G’s music pulses with the energy of her city. Her sound is a vibrant blend of R&B, Pop, Soul, Hip Hop, and Latin influences, shaped by legends like Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, Selena, and Whitney Houston. Singing with Al Sharpton’s Change Choir took her across the country, performing for crowds and building the powerhouse stage presence she’s known for today.She’s never been content to follow in anyone else’s footsteps. Striking out as an independent artist, Vero G has played stages all over New York—from the historic Nuyorican Poets Cafe to festivals like the 6th Street Festival and the 116th Street Latin Festival. Along the way, she’s collected plenty of hardware: SITA, LDM Music, Europe Music, BIA, and even the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award.If you’re after music that comes with a story, look no further. Spotlight TV Show—putting the spotlight on indie artists from all over the world. The show’s picked up its own share of awards, including B Free and People’s Choice Awards. That Spotlight brand has since grown into both a magazine and a radio show, all dedicated to amplifying voices that deserve to be heard.

Vero G is also a force behind the scenes, producing indie showcases across New York at venues like Karma Lounge and Harlem Bar & Grill.
