'Home Improvement' Star Arrested During LA County Traffic Stop: Reports (patch.com) — Los Angeles County deputies arrested former child star Jonathan Taylor Thomas in Westlake Village after a DUI traffic stop where he allegedly refused orders and obstructed the investigation. He was booked at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station on suspicion of obstruction and public intoxication, then released about 34 hours later as prosecutors continue reviewing whether to file charges.
   

2. Justin Bieber Surprises Fans With Free Performance At Local Park Known For Drug Raids (patch.com) — MacArthur Park visitors in Los Angeles got a surprise when Justin Bieber showed up with a small band for a free mini-concert, drawing a large crowd and viral videos. Local and federal officials, including LA County's district attorney, hailed the performance as a sign that recent drug and immigration crackdowns are making the long-troubled park safer and more family-friendly.
   

3. 100-Pound Pig Up For Adoption At Pasadena Humane (patch.com) — Animal lovers in the Los Angeles area are being reminded that while a 100-pound pig named Honey is up for adoption at Pasadena Humane, city rules matter. Several nearby communities allow pigs as pets, but Pasadena and the city of Los Angeles do not, so prospective adopters must confirm local ordinances before offering Honey a new home.

CalKIDS Scholarships available to local students (wavepublication.com) — Los Angeles County families can now tap into up to $489 million in CalKIDS scholarships, with more than 71% of public-school students in grades 2–12 eligible for as much as $1,500 each. Local schools will host on-campus claiming events throughout September, and families can also check and claim eligibility anytime online for future college or career training costs.
   

5. Silver Alert Activated For 67-Year-Old Man in Orange, Los Angeles Counties (mynewsla.com) — Authorities have activated a Silver Alert covering Los Angeles and Orange counties for 67-year-old William Marshall Prosser, who has dementia and was last seen early Wednesday in Los Alamitos. He may now be in the Cerritos area near Artesia, Del Amo, and Norwalk boulevards, and anyone who spots him is urged to call 911 immediately.
