Baby Whale Draws Crowds In Long Beach

The whale was spotted near Alamitos Bay Sunday but appeared to have headed back to the ocean. However, it showed up again Monday.

LONG BEACH, CA – A juvenile gray whale showed up on the shoreline of Alamitos Bay Monday, and authorities tried to coax it back to sea. The whale was spotted near the area Sunday but appeared to have headed back to the ocean. However, it showed up again Monday, bobbing in the water near the dock and drawing crowds.

The whale is believed to be the same one that attracted crowds of onlookers earlier this month in Dana Point Harbor. A Long Beach Marine officials told the Orange County Register the whale apparently got separated from its mother as it made its way up the coast.
