• Dozens of Peninsula high school seniors named National Merit semifinalists (mercurynews.com) — Los Altos students are strongly represented among this year's National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, with honorees from Los Altos High School and the School for Independent Learners earning recognition that places them in the top 1% of U.S. seniors. Nearby Los Altos Hills, Mountain View, Palo Alto, and other Peninsula schools also boast dozens of high achievers who now move on to compete for finalist status and scholarships in the spring.
• These are California's richest suburbs now — and how they've changed in past decade (sfchronicle.com) — Los Altos now ranks as California's richest suburb, with average home values around $4.7 million and household incomes that outpace even other affluent Bay Area communities. A new census-based analysis shows wealth has shifted north over the past decade, concentrating in tech-fueled suburbs like Los Altos while housing construction lags and middle-income residents feel increasingly squeezed.
