• Preparations underway to face El Niño storms (losaltosonline.com) — Los Altos is already clearing storm drains, creeks, and trees to reduce flooding and damage from an expected strong El Niño, while urging residents to prepare go-bags, stay-kits, and clean gutters. Nearby Mountain View and Los Altos Hills are also setting up sandbag stations, inspecting drainage channels, and coordinating emergency responses so local households can better withstand heavy winter storms.
   

• Dozens of Peninsula high school seniors named National Merit semifinalists (mercurynews.com) — Los Altos students are strongly represented among this year's National Merit Scholarship semifinalists, with honorees from Los Altos High School and the School for Independent Learners earning recognition that places them in the top 1% of U.S. seniors.
