• 19 Events to Make September One to Remember (modernluxury.com) — Downtown Los Altos will come alive on Friday, Sept. 4, when 10 to 15 bands perform for Los Altos First Fridays, now expanded to include Rancho Shopping Center with even more local musicians. The broader September lineup also features Half Moon Bay dining specials, a Disney musical in San Jose, and theater and shopping events around the Peninsula.
   

• San Jose landfill ordered to reduce air pollution and odors 'like rotten eggs and spoiled food' (mercurynews.com) — Trash from Los Altos is among the 4,000 tons a day headed to Newby Island landfill, which now faces strict new rules to cut rotten-egg odors and air pollution. State air regulators ordered continuous hydrogen sulfide monitoring, automated gas controls, and drone methane surveys after years of complaints, especially from Milpitas, with deadlines phased in over the next two years.
   

• One of the wealthiest suburbs in the U.S. is here in Palm Beach County (palmbeachpost.com) — Los Altos ranks as the nation's fourth-wealthiest suburb, with average household income above $417,000 and typical home values around $4.8 million. A new national ranking compares it with other ultra-affluent communities, highlighting how concentrated high incomes and soaring housing costs have become in select suburbs.
