Cigarette Likely Cause of Malibu Pier Fire
The small fire was put out prior to the arrival of local firefighters. No damage or injuries were reported.

A small Monday afternoon fire on the was the second blaze this year at the local landmark blamed on a discarded cigarette.
"No definitive cause has been determined, but everything at the scene is consistent with an improperly discarded cigarette," said Maria Grycan, community services representative for the Los Angeles County Fire Department in Malibu.
Grycan said the fire, which started at about 2 p.m., covered approximately six square feet of the pier. It was put out before local firefighters arrived. No damage or injuries were reported.

There was that damaged deck pieces and other items. It too was blamed on a discarded cigarette. Smoking is illegal on the pier, which is under the jurisdiction of State Parks.
