Today's riddle: What is the longest word in the dictionary? 🤔 (Answer below!)

  • Monday: Humid, with a high of 82 and low of 68 degrees.

📰 News we're reading

• Malibu weighs future of community lands — The Malibu Times (malibutimes.com) — Malibu is weighing how to use more than 61 acres of city-owned land, including new soccer fields at the Ioki property, a multi-generational recreation center and pool at Heathercliff, and parking and trolley options at the Triangle lot. Residents are urged to give input via an online survey by Aug. 31, ahead of a key City Council meeting on Sept. 26.

• Trade Only: Unfinished Malibu Canyon manse scores $34M in off-market deal (therealdeal.com) — A massive, unfinished estate in Malibu Canyon's guard-gated Serra Retreat quietly sold off-market for $34 million to a contractor who plans to complete and resell it within about a year. The deal follows a $55 million purchase of Peter O'Malley's Malibu mansion for a planned $200 million flip, signaling an active high-end redevelopment wave along Malibu's most coveted lots.

• Researchers link wildfires in California's coastal watersheds to the water quality at the beach - Santa Barbara News-Press (newspress.com) — New research links post-wildfire runoff in coastal watersheds to spikes in fecal bacteria at beaches, with Malibu Lagoon State Beach and Point Dume among the most impacted sites statewide. For Malibu-area swimmers and surfers, that means higher contamination risks after storms in recently burned areas, and better data for local agencies planning beach closures, water treatment, and future infrastructure locations.
