The judge says the rule likely oversteps constitutional limits and would be unworkable so close to November, meaning Martinez voters can keep relying on existing vote-by-mail procedures for now.
   

• California county considers cutting ties with ICE but its sheriff says no (theoaklandpress.com) — Contra Costa County leaders meeting in Martinez are weighing a new sanctuary-style policy that could limit how the Sheriff's Office cooperates with ICE, even as Sheriff David Livingston insists he'll keep notifying the agency about certain inmates' release dates. Immigrant advocates and some supervisors argue any cooperation breeds fear and discourages crime reporting, while others worry about serious repeat offenders returning to local communities.
