Caltrain Adopts New Bike Parking Plan
Officials said that currently about 93 percent of passengers that ride their bikes to a station bring their bicycles on board each day.

BAY AREA, CA – Caltrain has adopted a new Bicycle Parking Management Plan in an effort to reduce the number of bikes on trains, transit officials announced last week.
Under the new plan, Caltrain will work to increase low-cost, easy-to-use, and secure bike parking while increasing capacity under the stations along the corridor.
Transit officials said that currently about 93 percent of the Caltrain passengers that ride their bikes to a station bring their bicycles on board each day.

Caltrain said that even though they have the most on-board bike storage capacity than any other commuter rail service in the country, the new plan would allow Caltrain to more effectively manage its growing amount of bike riders using the system.
Additionally, Caltrain said they would hire a dedicated bike access project manager by the end of this year to deliver a detailed funding plan.

Transit officials said currently, Caltrain has a mix of third party and in-house bike parking facilities, but due to a lack of dedicated staff and resource constraints the ones managed by Caltrain are underperforming.
