Gas Powered Leaf Blowers Are Prohibited In The City Of Mill Valley

Residents and gardeners can also use electric leaf blowers or electric leaf vacuums to collect and dispose of leaves.

The Mill Valley Police Department would like to remind residents and gardeners that the use of gasoline-powered leaf blowers is prohibited by the Mill Valley Municipal Code in an effort to minimize air and noise pollution. Gas-powered leaf blowers contribute to noise pollution, emitting tones at levels that could lead to hearing damage. They also contribute to air pollution, causing smog and breathing problems such as asthma.

Instead of using gas powered leaf blowers, residents and gardeners are encouraged to rake or sweep leaves and debris into piles and dispose in the appropriate green trash bin. Residents and gardeners can also use electric leaf blowers or electric leaf vacuums to collect and dispose of leaves.

Residents that employ gardeners are encouraged to notify the gardener of the prohibition against gas leaf blowers. We recommend that residents monitor the gardener's activity on a regular basis to ensure gasoline-powered equipment is not being used.

Residents who would like to assist in notifying their neighbors or their gardeners can print out the attached flyer that help explains the City’s ordinance in both English and Spanish.
