Italian Street Painting Marin Hires New Executive Director to Head Annual Downtown San Rafael Event

The 2016 Italian Street Painting Marin will take place in downtown San Rafael Saturday and Sunday, June 25th and 26th.

Italian Street Painting Marin (ISPM) is pleased to announce that Kevin W. Marlatt (Mill Valley) has been named the organization’s Executive Director effective immediately. Kevin Marlatt is a seasoned arts executive who has provided leadership and advocacy for arts education and nonprofit arts organizations for more than 25 years. Mr. Marlatt will lead ISPM in its efforts to further the art of street painting, develop and support ongoing educational programs in the community and expand the organization’s resources and capacity. The 2016 Italian Street Painting Marin, themed Ciao Bella Roma will take place in downtown San Rafael Saturday and Sunday, June 25th and 26th. http://www.italianstreetpaintingmarin.org/

Italian Street Painting Marin, a program of EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases, showcases the fine art of street painting and supports quality arts-based programs and experiences for underserved students. Italian Street Painting Marin, founded by Sue and Joe Carlomagno, has relied on a growing community of dedicated volunteers and small part time staff to produce the annual June event.

We welcome everyone to come and enjoy the amazing art work, meet the many gifted artists and participate in one of the Bay Area’s most visually stunning art events.”

“Kevin brings us the new experience, energy and drive to continue and expand the vision of Sue and Joe Carlomagno over these many years for street painting and helps us assure that Italian Street Painting Marin will be here in the future,” said Dr. Emil Kakkis, President of the EveryLife Foundation for Rare Diseases. “I look forward to working closely with Kevin on building the bridge between the inspiring street artists and the inspiring patients struggling with rare diseases.”

Marlatt began his arts career at the New England Foundation for the Arts in Cambridge Massachusetts. After moving to the Bay Area in 1990 he held a number of live production and arts education positions at respected arts organizations throughout the region and beyond including; The Western Alliance of Arts Administrators, San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Performances, Stanford Lively Arts, Jazz @ Lincoln Center and the Oakland School for the Arts. Mr. Marlatt also directed the development of the Arts Education Master Plan for the San Francisco Unified School District.

In 2005 he was named Executive Director of the Blue Bear School of Music in San Francisco where he led the significant growth of the school’s enrollment, outreach programs and fundraising efforts. Since 2010 Mr. Marlatt has served as the Arts Program Coordinator for the City of Mill Valley, worked closely with the Mill Valley Arts Commission and has produced a number of large events for the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce including the annual Winterfest Celebration and the Mill Valley Wine, Beer and Gourmet Food Tasting.

Marlatt is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado and attended the University of Colorado-Denver where he pursued a Master’s Degree in Public Administration.

He lives in Mill Valley, California and has a teenage daughter.
