Mudslide Destroys 2 Homes, Injures 1 Person In Sausalito

Fifty area homes evacuated, as crews search for other possible victims. Power and gas outages also plaguing area, police said.

SAUSALITO, CA – A morning landslide in Sausalito sent one person to the hospital and destroyed two homes, and crews today are searching for other possible victims, according to authorities.

The mudslide was reported around 3 a.m. on the 400 block of Sausalito Boulevard, the Southern Marin Fire District said.

The flow knocked two houses from their foundations and buried up to five vehicles, along with damaging gas and power lines in the area, officials said.

A house on Sausalito Boulevard slid into the residence below on Crescent Avenue, according to Natalie Poston, assistant to the Sausalito Police Department chief. A woman, the sole occupant of the house in the 400 block of Sausalito Boulevard, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Marin General Hospital, Poston said.

Fifty homes in the area were evacuated and PG&E is at the scene, she said.

Sausalito police advised motorists to avoid Sausalito Boulevard, Crescent Avenue and Main, Valley and Third streets. The agency estimated the streets would be closed until approximately 3 p.m.

Pacific Gas & Electric Co. reported roughly 300 customers in the area of Sausalito and Marin City are without power. Restoration was project for approximately 12 p.m.
