Staffing services are limited to “essential services,” based on the March 16, 2020 Shelter in Place Order of Marin County Health Officer(“Shelter in Place Order”). We ask for your patience while the City adjusts its staffing and workload accordingly. The following summarizes current services for the Department:

Planning Division
- New Applications: No new planning applications will be accepted until further notice.
- Existing Applications: Planning staff will continue to process existing applications, as resources allow.
- Planning Commission and Zoning Administrator Meetings: Are canceled at the present time.
Building Division Building Inspections

- Inspection services will continue in order to perform work that qualifies as “Essential Infrastructure” and “Essential Businesses” in the Shelter in Place Order including, but not limited to, construction of housing, provided that such work is conducted in compliance with Social Distancing Requirements as defined in the Shelter in Place Order. The Shelter in Place Order exempts maintenance of essential infrastructure, including the construction of housing. Based on this exemption, staff will continue to conduct inspections, process permits and plan check submittals, as staffing allows.
- City inspectors will contact the household to confirm the inspection prior to conducting the site visit to ensure health and safety protocols are followed.

Residential Building Reports
Residential Building Reports do not qualify as “Essential Infrastructure” and “Essential Businesses” and will be suspended at the present time.
Building Permit Plan Check Applications / Plan Check Resubmittals
We are accepting Building Permit Applications and Plan Check Resubmittals via FTP Site, mail, or email. Please complete the permit applicationand submit via FTP Site, mail, or email to Permit Service Coordinator, Athena Langdon atalangdon@cityofmillvalley.org.
Building Permit Issuance
Permit issuance services (electronic only) will continue for projects that qualify as “Essential “Infrastructure” and “Essential Businesses” as defined in the Shelter in Place Order.
Code Enforcement
Complaints involving life safety issues and public nuisances will continue as normal; all others will be deferred.
Public Inquiries
When needed, schedule a phone or online appointment. Out of an abundance of caution, no in-person meetings will be conducted at the present time to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

At this time, Planning and Building services are by appointment only, with building inspections to continue.
Building Department
The Shelter in Place Order exempts maintenance of essential infrastructure, including the construction of housing. Based on this exemption, staff will continue to process permits and plan check submittals, as staffing allows. In-person submittals require an appointment and are based on staffing availability.

"Over the Counter" Building Permits
- Small permits such as electric panel, water heater, furnace installations, or re-roofs will be processed via e-mail; please complete the permit application and return via email to Permit Service Coordinator Athena Langdon alangdon@cityofmillvalley.org.
- Small plan check reviews for generators, roof mounted photovoltaic systems, kitchen and bath remodels may be reviewed electronically or by appointment only. To initiate the process, please fill out the permit application and e-mail the application and supporting information to Permit Service Coordinator Athena Langdon at alangdon@cityofmillvalley.org.
