Need A Car, Truck or SUV? Marin County to Auction Off Several Fleet Vehicles

The vehicles as well as other equipment and surplus items will be available soon through an online auction.

MARIN COUNTY, CA — In the market for a used SUV, car or work truck? You're in luck. The Marin County Department of Public Works is putting several such vehicles up for public purchase soon via an online auction.

The vehicles will be offered below Kelley Blue Book value in the auction that begins Saturday. Equipment and other surplus items will also be offered as part of the auction.

The county is getting rid of the vehicles in its effort to continue reducing its fleet, because it "remains committed to environmental awareness and fiscally responsible spending," according to a news release.

Vehicles with high fuel consumption or excessive particulate emissions are being sold and, if possible, replaced by hybrids, flex fuel option vehicles or more efficient diesel engines. The county fleet now has about 75 hybrid and/or electric vehicles.

The auction begins at midnight Pacific Time on July 30 at Publicsurplus.com, and closes at 2 p.m. Aug. 6. Details about the auction items are not available or visible on the website until the auction begins.

Payment must be received within five business days of the auction close and vehicles must be picked up on weekdays between 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., within five business days of the receipt of payment.
