• S.F. sets another monthly high tide record — flooding hits parts of Bay Area (newsbreak.com) — Exceptionally high tides shut down the northbound Highway 101 off-ramp and flooded the Manzanita Park and Ride in Mill Valley, leaving standing water on Shoreline Highway and nearby paths. Similar flooding hit Tiburon and San Francisco's waterfront, with forecasters warning that El Niño and climate change are driving higher tides now and potentially even more disruptive king tides later this month and winter.

• San Anselmo store seeks cigar exemption in tobacco rules (marinij.com) — Mill Valley recently adopted Marin County's strict tobacco ordinance, part of a regional wave of rules that now has San Anselmo weighing whether to ban most tobacco sales or carve out an exemption for premium cigars. A longtime San Anselmo shop argues cigars are an adult-only product vital to its survival, while health experts and town leaders debate how far to go in protecting residents from nicotine-related harms.
