MARIN COUNTY, CA — A Tiburon boy was killed over the weekend in a boating accident near Angel Island, the Marin County Sheriff's Office said Monday.
A 911 caller reported that two minor children were ejected from a private boat around 7 p.m. Sunday. The children were struck by the vessel during the recovery effort, Chief Deputy Coroner Roger Fielding said.
The children were pulled aboard the vessel and taken to the Corinthian Yacht Club in Tiburon. An 11-year-old boy suffered traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the yacht club, Fielding said. The second child was taken to a hospital.
The boy's name will not be released due to his age, Fielding said.
"The Marin County Sheriff's Office and personnel of the Coroner Division offers our sincerest condolences and best wishes to the family and friends affected by this tragedy," Fielding said.
Tiburon police, the Marin County Sheriff's Office-Coroner Division and the U.S. Coast Guard were investigating the death. A forensic post-mortem examination and toxicology testing have been scheduled for later this week.
