Update: Pedestrian Dies; El Monte Still Closed

Update:

A pedestrian who was struck by an SUV in Mountain View this morning has died, police said.

The collision occurred at 6:38 a.m. near the intersection of El Monte Avenue and Marich Way, according to Mountain View police.

Northbound El Monte Avenue was closed between Marich Way and El Camino Real following the collision and is expected to remain closed until about 2:30 p.m. while investigations continue.

According to Mountain View police spokesman Sgt. Saul Jaeger, the driver involved in the collision is cooperating with the investigation. Alcohol and drugs do not seem to be a factor, he said.

The Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office did not immediately have information on the victim.

Update:

A major injury collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian in Mountain View shut down traffic this morning, police said.

At about 6:38 a.m., an SUV struck a woman near the intersection of El Monte Avenue and Marich Way, according to Mountain View police Sgt. Saul Jaeger. The victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition, Jaeger said.

According to Jaeger, the driver involved in the collision is fully cooperating with investigations and alcohol and drugs do not seem to be a factor.

The cause and fault of the collision are still currently under investigation, Jaeger said.

Northbound traffic on El Monte Avenue between El Camino Real and Marich Way is expected to remain closed until about 10:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m., Jaeger said.

Police are asking anyone who might have been in the area at the time and seen something to contact them at (650) 903-6733 and ask for Officer Greg Ienni.

Earlier:

A traffic collision has shut down northbound traffic on a Mountain View street this morning, according to police.

Police said at about 7:30 a.m. that northbound traffic on El Monte Avenue will be shut down between El Camino Real and Marich Way for about three hours.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area.
