Hwy 101 Update: Closure Expected Until 5 P.M.

The shutdown in both directions near Burlingame is due to a big-rig collision.

U.S. Highway 101 remains blocked in both directions in Burlingame this morning due to downed power lines following a Friday night crash, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP has issued a Sig-alert due to the incident. The highway is expected to remain closed for most of the day, according to the CHP, but crews on scene hope to have the roadway reopened by 5 p.m.

Commuters are advised to use Interstate Highway 280 as an alternate route.

A tractor-trailer struck a power pole on southbound Highway 101 near the Broadway off-ramp around 9:30 p.m. Friday, knocking high-voltage lines down across both northbound and southbound lanes, according to the CHP. Crews with PG&E are currently working on an electric tower damaged in the crash.

Traffic is being diverted off the highway at Anza Boulevard in the northbound direction and at Millbrae Avenue in the southbound direction.
