Students Show-off Art Projects

Weeks of arts classes in South Bay culminate with opening reception in Mountain View.

For the second year in a row, proud mom Ana Uriostegui's daughter's artwork was chosen to be displayed in the rotunda at .

"Art is what she most likes to do and she's demonstrating it because it's been twice that they've picked her work." said Uriostegui of Jasmine Salto, a 3rd grader at . "This is a nice program that helps kids develop educationally and emotionally."

Since the 1980s children in the South Bay have participated in the  Art4Schools program, which brings instructional art into the classroom. In total 21 schools and 375 students took part in the three to four month program, the culmination of which is the exhibit of the artwork in Mountain View.

Parents and kids attended the opening reception and snapped photos in front of their art. The sparkle and smiles in their eyes showed off their pride.

"I was very pleasantly surprised. I felt the quality of work, I didn't expect it would be this good ," said Beverly Engelmann, mom of 4th grader Kassia. "Even the other participants in the show, I think it's very high quality considering the ages of the kids."

Liz Littlefield's daughter, Madison, drew a cat based out of a book that she was reading. Littlefield shared that the experience was exciting for both herself and her daughter.

"It makes you feel very proud as a mom to see them  so excited by what they can draw and their accomplishment," she said. "I know Maddie was absolutely thrilled."
