YCIS Principal Takes on ALS Ice Bucket Challenge
Local Educators Raising Awareness for ALS Research.

Always one to embrace a challenge, Annette Hanson, Principal of Yew Chung International School of Silicon Valley (YCIS), took on the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge on August 25, 2014. Challenged by a parent, Mrs. Hanson responded with enthusiasm. She turned it into a teachable moment for students, and persuaded a few of her teachers to join in!
During morning announcements, Principal Hanson talked to elementary students about ALS and how the ALS Association raises funds for research and support for those suffering from this debilitating disease. She challenged students to look in their piggy banks to see if they could bring at least $1 to donate to the ALS Association this week.
At the end of the school day, Principal Hanson and three teachers gathered under a tree to accept the Ice Bucket Challenge before an audience of cheering students and parents. Mindful of the severe drought in California, they were also sure to water the plants simultaneously! Good citizenship begins with good role models.
