Animal Foundation Seeking Donations for Dog Burned in Motor Home Fire

Officials say the dog will require long-term care that her owners cannot afford, as the fire has left them 'essentially homeless.'

A local animal foundation is seeking donations for a dog who sustained third-degree burns in a recent motor home fire, county officials said Saturday.

The ASK Foundation, a nonprofit otherwise known as The Animal Solutions Konnection, is accepting donations for 3-year-old pit bull Pinky, who was severely burned Thursday morning when her owners’ motor home was destroyed by a fire near Hemet. According to a Department of Animal Services press release, Pinky sustained third-degree burns to “30 percent of her face.”

Officials say the dog will require long-term care that her owners cannot afford, as the fire has left them “essentially homeless,” said John Welsh of Riverside County Animal Services.

“What’s important right now is the humane care for this pet,” said RCAS Director Robert Miller. “While the county is providing initial emergency care, we are not equipped to provide specialized, long-term care for this pet’s recovery. We have already reached out to some of our veterinary partners and donors to provide the skin care necessary for this patient’s full recovery. In these cases, infection is always a concern and also pain management.”

Those who wish to donate are asked to mail donations to the county’s main animal shelter at 6851 Van Buren Blvd., Jurupa Valley, CA 92509, or visit the ASK Foundation’s website at theaskfoundation.org.
