Clayton Fire Day 3: Blaze Roars On With 3,000 Acres Consumed [UPDATE]

Containment at only 5 percent. Evacuation centers set for affected area residents in Lake County. [Breaking]

LAKE COUNTY, CA – The Clayton Fire, burning in Lake County south of Lower Lake since Saturday, has consumed 3,000 acres as of this morning, according to Cal Fire. The fire first was logged Saturday evening off Highway 29 and Clayton Creek Road.

Firefighters totalling 1,044 are at the scene of the blaze today, and containment is recorded at 5 percent, the agency said.

More than 175 structures were destroyed, but details on the type of buildings were not available this morning.

Mandatory evacuations are ordered for area residents, (details here), and evacuation centers are set up at Highlands Senior Center in Clearlake, 3245 Bowers Ave. in Clearlake, Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3500 Hill Rd. E., Lakeport, Kelseyville High School, 5480 Main Street, Kelseyville, and Twin Pines Casino, 22223 Hwy 29, Middletown.

The cause is under investigation.
