📰 News we're reading

• Calistoga seeks Bee City status to protect pollinators (napavalleyregister.com) — Calistoga is moving to become an official Bee City USA, a step that could reshape how public lands are landscaped and treated with pesticides across this Napa Valley community. With backing from the Xerces Society and Napa County beekeepers, the city plans habitat improvements, pollinator-friendly plantings, and education efforts that supporters say could eventually extend as a 'bee corridor' through the whole valley.

• di Rosa sheep to return to the 'pasture' outside Napa County art center (napavalleyregister.com) — Residents can soon see the beloved metal "sheep" sculptures back on the hillside at the di Rosa Center for Contemporary Art southwest of Napa, with a restored flock debuting at an Oct. 25 fundraiser. The return coincides with a new partnership involving the Napa County Regional Park and Open Space District and Land Trust of Napa County, preserving land and planning a public hiking trail while signaling a fresh chapter for the art center.

• PG&E power shutoffs spare local counties, limited so far in Northern California. More could be coming (pressdemocrat.com) — PG&E is warning that Napa County customers could face Public Safety Power Shutoffs Sunday and Monday if high winds and dry conditions worsen wildfire risk. While only a few counties had shutoffs by Saturday afternoon, Napa is on the watch list, so residents should monitor PG&E alerts, check their addresses online, and be ready for possible temporary outages as conditions evolve.
