Silverado Trail Reopens Ahead Of Schedule

Significant storm-related damage left a section of the road near St. Helena closed for 10 days.

NAPA COUNTY, CA — The Silverado Trail reopened in both directions at Madrone Knoll Way to Meadowood Lane late Thursday night, officials with the county of Napa said.

Significant storm-related damage left a section of the road near St. Helena closed for 10 days.

The county's contractor, OC Jones, completed the work ahead of schedule for a cost currently estimated at $400,000, Napa County Emergency Services Coordinator Leah Greenbaum said in a news release.

The repairs were initially expected to take as long as three weeks.

Now that the detour route is no longer in use, the temporary traffic light at state Highway 29 and Deer Park Road is scheduled to be removed Friday afternoon. Drivers in this area should exercise caution in light of changed conditions, county officials said.

“We know how critical the Silverado Trail is for commuters across the Napa Valley,” said Steve Lederer, director of Napa County Public Works. “I think we are all glad to see this project complete ahead of schedule.”

Concrete barriers will remain along the shoulder of this section of Silverado Trail until permanent guardrails are replaced in a couple of months as part of a larger guardrail project.

The repair included improving drainage to allow groundwater to flow under the road, preventing future storms from causing damage to the roadway, Greenbaum said.

Additionally, the area below the road toward the river was reinforced with rock.

The roadway was inspected for several hundred yards in both directions from the repair area, and a crack sealing and patching project for pavement in that section of Silverado Trail is planned for 2022.
