Assault Rifle-Toting Suspect Arrested In Newark
A Newark Police Detective saw two armed suspects get out of a car and, gun drawn, he intercepted them. (Breaking)

NEWARK, CA — Two suspects were detained and an AR-15 assault rifle, banned in California, was confiscated. The daring, solo intercept of the suspects by Newark Police Detective Matt Warren happened as the pair approached an apartment complex.
Detective Warren was driving in the area of Oak Street Thursday when he noticed a man get out of a vehicle holding a rifle near his leg.
According to a written statement from Newark Police, "As he was walking, the male handed the rifle to another male who continued walking towards an apartment complex. Fearing of a possible shooting Detective Warren contacted the subjects at gunpoint and requested an emergency response for additional Officers."

When backup officers arrived, Detective Warren took the two men into custody and recovered the rifle. It had no make, model or serial number on it.
One of the suspects was booked into jail for possession of an assault weapon.
